The jewels that make up ‘Fool's gold’ were created with the intention of reconsidering the idea of ornament and the dichotomy between price and value in the contemporary conception of fine jewellery, in which more importance is given to more expensive materials.

Here, on the other hand, the protagonist is a mineral whose cubic formations are exceptional and are the very centre of the composition, leaving gold in a secondary place at the service of creating bases to support it and also the diamonds that grow on its faces and vertices like small invasions, in the same way that mushrooms grow on tree trunks or mussels are naturally anchored to the rocks on which the sea water hits.

Unique piece made of 18k FAIRMINED yellow gold and natural pyrite with an 11 old-cut diamond cluster set in 18k white gold. We respect the natural shape of each pyrite without modifying it, so each piece is unique and unrepeatable.

DETAILS

This ring is a compositional exercise in assamblage carried out by hand-moulding the 18-carat FAIRMINED yellow gold arm, which holds the pyrite with a firm and different gesture in each piece.

Working with the technique of setting stone on stone, groups of old-cut natural diamonds in claw-set Fairmined white gold are in turn set on the faces and sides of the pyrites, camouflaging themselves and generating volumes and gleams similar to those generated by the stone itself enhancing, without modifying it, the unique beauty of this fascinating mineral.

Pyrite is known as ‘fool's gold’ because of its gold-like colour and lustre. The pyrites that make up this series of rings come from the artisanal open-pit mine of Navajún (La Rioja), where natural cubic pyrites formed during the Jurassic period, contemporaries of the dinosaurs and considered the most perfect in the world.

All of them have been collected by the artist herself. The work is a homage to the marvel that nature gives us and it does so by placing the intertwined and perfect cubic formations as the protagonist, without carving or altering their extraordinary natural form.

CARE

Gold and diamonds are natural materials that resist ageing and oxidation. To clean them, use only water and neutral soap, then dry them with a soft cloth.
Do not use abrasives or chemical products, creams, or perfumes, which may alter the pyrite's natural satin shine.
Pyrite is resistant, but it requires gentle handling. Avoid sharp blows on its corners to preserve them.
Take care of your fine sweaters and scarves when wearing them, as the diamond mounts and angular vertices of pyrite could damage them.
